Updated, Tuesday January 7, 2025: With details on the Galaxy S25 price and its implications for the S25 Ultra.
Samsung will hold its latest Galaxy Unpacked launch event later this month, and the Samsung community will get a first look at the rumored Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25+, and Galaxy S25 Ultra. When can they expect to see the new handsets, when will pre-orders open, and when will the new OneUI-powered Android flagships reach them?
It is widely believed that Samsung will hold the Galaxy Unpacked event on January 22. This date was first hinted at thanks to leaked promotional images from an Italian launch event. The photos (which have since been taken offline) included the date January 22, 2025.
Since then, various prognosticators have pushed back the date to January 22. While some have instead put forward the date of January 23, a careful examination of the time zones of all the reports indicates an early morning time slot on the west coast of America, the 22nd.
Updated: Monday January 6.
Samsung has sent out invitations to its upcoming launch event as the doors to its pavilion open at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. The South Korean company has confirmed that the next Galaxy Unpacked launch event will take place on January 22 in San Jose, California.
The event will see the next generation of Galaxy AI, which Samsung says will be a “more natural and intuitive Galaxy AI” that will “change the way Galaxy users interact with the world.”
As part of the invitation, Samsung also confirmed that the event will be broadcast via the Samsung Newsroom, the main Samsung website and the Samsung YouTube page. Galaxy Unpacked will begin at 1:00 p.m. Eastern/1000 Pacific.
Update, Tuesday January 7, 2025: Aside from launch, pre-order and availability dates, one of the key information for consumers will be the pricing of the entire Galaxy S25 family, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The first price points are coming as Samsung updates retailers and networks to the final packages.
Android Beat journalist Ishan Agarwal details the latest potential price of the Galaxy S25 512 GB model… €1,079.
The closest model to this S25 in the current range is probably the Samsung Galaxy S24, with its 8 GB of memory and 256 GB of storage. The price was €960 when it launched in January 2024. With every model in the Galaxy S24 family expected to come with a minimum of 12GB of RAM, you can see that the S25 costs €90 more than the year latest, but with more memory and storage.
Will the Galaxy S5+ and S25 Ultra models get a small price increase as well as an increase in storage and memory? That remains to be seen, especially since most S24+ and S24 Ultra models already come with 12/512 options, but this S25 price suggests the Ultra’s 12/512 option will be in the same range than the €1,570 of 2024.
In previous years, the pre-order window for new Galaxy S handsets opened at the end of the event, allowing those watching the livestream to register immediately. Current information is that pre-orders will launch two days after the event, on Friday January 24th, and will remain open until Tuesday February 4th.
If Samsung follows the same pattern as in previous years, the pre-order window will feature several offers to entice consumers to sign up. These include discounts on accessories (including the Galaxy Watch and Galaxy Buds), an upgrade to the next storage tier, and web-exclusive colors available only on Samsung’s website.
After the pre-order window, the Galaxy S25 Ultra, along with the Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+, will go on sale on Friday, February 7. This adheres to Samsung’s traditional two-week gap between opening pre-orders and launch. handsets for sale in various parts of the world.
Whether we’ll see any new features, or even the first glimpse of the fourth Galaxy S25, the special edition, remains to be seen.
