Samsung is bringing more apps to the Cover Screen of its Galaxy Z Flip, including Google’s Gmail app.
Last year, the Galaxy Z Flip 5 brought a larger and actually useful Cover Display to the company’s clamshell foldable phone. But it was pretty limited, offering only widgets and a few select apps to run on the 3.4-inch screen. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 recycles that display, adding a few more widget options and a few more features.
But Samsung says there are more new features to come.
In a press conference ahead of today’s Unpacked event, Samsung representatives confirmed that more apps are in the works for the Galaxy Z Flip 6’s (and presumably the Flip 5’s) Cover Screen. Two apps mentioned were Google’s Gmail and Microsoft Outlook. It’s unclear when these other apps might arrive, though. They won’t be available out of the box on the Flip 6, though.
Galaxy Z Flip owners can already use both apps via Samsung’s Good Lock, which offers an option to run any app on the “FlexWindow.”
The Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 are available for pre-order now with up to $1,200 in trade-in value, free double storage, and other perks. You can also get an additional offer of up to $150 with our Galaxy Z Fold 6 link on Samsung.com.
Samsung will begin shipping its new foldables along with the Galaxy Ring, Galaxy Buds 3 (and Buds 3 Pro), Galaxy Watch 7, and Galaxy Watch Ultra on July 24.
