Sammy Smith was declared winner of the Xfinity race on Saturday evening at Rockingham Speedway after Jesse Love’s car failed the inspection after the race.
LOVE took the checkered flag during the first XFINITY race in Rockingham since 2004, but his car was noted as a violation with the rear suspension. NASCAR said that Love’s car had violated rule 14.14.2.2.i-5.h (all the coupling surfaces between the truck runs and the U-BOULON saddle must be in full contact with each other).
LOVE’s disqualification raised Smith to the winner. This is the first victory of Smith of the season and his third in his career Xfinity.
Parker Retzlaff is now credited with second place. It is his best career finish in Xfinity. Harrison Burton finished third, Brennan Poole is fourth and Taylor Gray completes the first five.
Love is recognized to finish 37th.
In addition, Justin Bonsignore has been disqualified to have more than two wheel nuts which are not safe and secure at the end of the race. Bonsignore is credited with the end of 38th place in the field of 38 cars.
