If you let Sam Altman’s lawyers say, Elon Musk’s continuing battle against Openai stems from his personal vendetta against Altman and Openai – a company that saw her business boom since she refused to give in to Musk in 2018.
In a Wednesday file linked to the pursuit of Musk in August 2024 against Openai, lawyers for Altman and the company presented the version of Altman events which led to the rupture between the two technological titans. This is the most detailed account so far on the side of Altman of what happened in his fight with Musk.
“Musk could not tolerate to see such a success for a company he had abandoned and declared condemned,” said the file. “He did his project to eliminate Openai and build a direct competitor who would seize the technological example – not for humanity but for Elon Musk.”
The file continued: “The campaign that followed was relentless. Thanks to press attacks, malicious campaigns disseminated more than 200 million musk followers on the social media platform that he controls, a pretextual demand for business files, harassing legal allegations and a simulation supply for OpenAi assets, Musk has tried all the tools available to harm the Openai.”
The OpenAI file on Wednesday came the same day that the judge in the case set a date of trial in March 2026 in this Clash of Titans trial. The company’s lawyers did not respond to a request for comments to Business Insider.
Openai said he was a Musk in a scathing series of X articles published on Wednesday. The manufacturer of Chatgpt also underlined the old blog articles which he had published on their pivot from a non -profit approach as well as their exchanges of emails with Musk.
“Elon’s non -stop actions against us are only bad faith tactics to slow out Openai and take control of the main AI innovations for its personal benefit,” wrote Openai on X on Wednesday.
“Elon has never been on the mission. He has always had his own program. He tried to take control of Openai and to merge him with Tesla as a for -profit goal – his own emails prove it. When he did not succeed, he storm,” added the company.
Openai representatives referred to BI to his recent positions and on Wednesday’s file when they contacted comments.
Musk co -founded Openai with Altman in 2015, but left the company’s board of directors in 2018. Musk said in 2019 that he left because Tesla was in competition for the same talent as Optaai. Musk said he “did not agree with part of what the Openai team wanted to do. Musk did not specify what these differences were.
Since then, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX has been a vocal critic of the management of Altman d’Openai. Musk initially filed a complaint against Openai in February 2024 but had withdrawn it in June. He then refreshed the trial in August.
In his trial, Musk accused Openai of having violated his non -profit mission by associating with Microsoft. Musk’s lawyers argued that Openai leaders had “deceived” the company’s co -foundation by playing on its fears concerning the existential risks of AI.
In February, a group of investors led by Elon-Musk made an offer of $ 97.4 billion for Openai. Altman rejected the off -controlled takeover offer from Musk.
“The company is not for sale, either the mission,” Altman said about Musk’s offer in an interview with Sky News in February.
Musk did not respond to a request for BI comments.
