Dozens of people of seven states, most of them in the West, fell ill in an epidemic of Salmonella linked to a recall of 1.7 million eggs, said federal security regulators.
The August Egg Company, of Hilmar, California, published the recall of brown organic and brown eggs without cage linked to several brands which were distributed to grocery stores from February 3 to May 15 of this year because of their potential to be contaminated by Salmonella, Food and Drug Administration said Friday.
At least 79 people fell ill from the egg -related epidemic, with 21 hospitalized people, the American centers for controlling and prevention of American diseases said on Friday in a separate declaration.
Most These patients (63) live in Californiawhich is followed by the Nevada and the state of Washington, with four diseases each. Diseases have also been reported in Arizona, Kentucky, Nebraska and New Jersey. No deaths have been reported.
The eggs, with sales dates between March 4 and June 4, 2025, were distributed in retail places, notably Save Mart, Foodmaxx, Raley’s, Ralphs and Safeway.
The eggs were also distributed from February 3 to May 6, 2025, with sales dates from March 4 to June 19, 2025 at Walmart stores in Arizona, California, Illinois, Indiana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, Washington and Wyoming, said FDA.
A list of plants and plant number codes associated with the epidemic is on the Fda And CDC Websites.
“Do not eat any egg recalled,” said the CDC. The agency said consumers who had eggs should throw them away or return to the store where they were purchased.
The agency advised people to wash the items and surfaces that may have touched the eggs recalled with hot soapy water or in a dishwasher.
The CDC said the samples taken by the FDA During an inspection in an installation of transformation of the August egg company, had been tested positive for a salmonella tension which was closely linked to the tension found in the people who fell ill.
In a declaration to the FDA, the August egg company said that it thought it was “appropriate by abundance of prudence to carry out this voluntary recall, because consumers can still have these eggs at home.”
The company noted that when its “transformation factory identified this concern, we immediately started to divert all the eggs from the plant to an egg editorial installation, which paste eggs and kills all pathogens”.
The company added that it was “its own strict examination” to avoid future recurrences.
Salmonella patient about 1.35 million people in the United States every year.
Salmonella symptoms include fever, diarrhea and abdominal pain. Most people recover without treatment after four to seven days.
Some, like children under the age of 5, people aged 65 and over, and people with weakened immune systems may suffer from more serious illnesses that require medical treatment or hospitalization, said CDC.
