“Sailing Yacht Below Deck” Recap, Season 5, Episode 13

This week’s episode revolves around Daisy focusing on the stew chef’s hard day at work, and then a night out where not one, not two, but three of her co-workers would like to kiss her. Whatever charm or magnetic effect she has on them, it doesn’t work on the guests. As primaries Jillian and Sharie leave, they take Glenn aside to criticize the crew. They say the guys went above and beyond, but the girls weren’t as attentive. Calling the outside/inside by gender sounds gross, but they’re not wrong that the inside was rolling their eyes and getting irritated behind their backs. Glenn apologizes and everyone pretends to say goodbye.

The conversation with Glenn was just a dress rehearsal, as the primaries repeat the same criticism to everyone by handing over the tip. They denounce the “tension between girls”, which certainly exists, but when the worst is right, we don’t want to hear it. Daisy largely dismisses the comments because the guests were very hostile, but she admits that she feels guilty and responsible that they could say the crew didn’t like them. It’s literally their job to be nice to the guests, so this is unprofessional.

Danni heaps criticism by asking to speak with Daisy and accuses the chief stew of having lost his passion and motivation. She dares to say that she also speaks for Diana in complaining that Daisy is harassing them and not giving them enough direction. Daisy gives him a non-apology “I’m sorry if you feel that way” and hands him to Danni, who has to ask if she doesn’t know what she’s supposed to do. Daisy can’t stand his sometimes bad attitude: “Actually, I think I’m a very nice crew member.” » She dismisses the comments again, this time because she sees them as undermining Gen Z. It’s as if Danni magically overheard this comment, because her going out outfit and later hairstyle are practically a parody of Gen Z. Regardless, neither gossip leaves the conversation with an altered point of view. You know how many POV videos misunderstand what POV means? I can see Danni doing a “POV: Your boss hates you” type video, that’s just her getting ready for the camera.

Daisy then has a demoralizing conversation #2 with Glenn, where she finally takes some responsibility for the bad vibes but still points out the stonewalling of the guests. Glenn reminds her that she sets the tone for her department and that they need to behave better if they have similarly negative guests again. Daisy, emotional about “this damn day,” has to take a minute to walk around the marina before finishing the revision session. Glenn reassures her that he knows she can do it. Daisy shows some improvement from previous seasons by not completely falling apart in the face of criticism, but it also feels like Glenn is tiptoeing to not trigger her, so is this really growth ?

Meanwhile, Danni fills in Diana, who is shocked that Danni was so bold towards their boss. Danni thinks it’s hard to work for someone who (she thinks) doesn’t care. Diana disagrees; Daisy is understanding and isn’t the worst boss boss she’s ever worked for. Diana tells us that Danni’s priority is flirting with guys, so it seems like what’s really driving her crazy is Daisy getting in the way of that. Danni: “It’s such a mind game, and I don’t do mind games.” Danni continues to fan the flames of the mind games she started by also telling Chase and Gary about her issues with Daisy. She may be sleeping with Chase, but expecting Gary, a guy who has known Daisy literally 90 times longer than her and her best friend for many years, to take her side is unrealistic.

After all the fuss, the tip actually came to $15,000, which isn’t bad at all for one night. Daisy is on the verge of tears during the reunion, but looking forward to the evening with Keith cheers her up. They bond over joking about Danni trying to murder both of their characters. She wants to recover from “the worst charter she has ever done”.

The team’s night out isn’t as dramatic as the telenovela Glenn watches in bed, but there is some intrigue. Chase and Danni are still a couple, while Gary asks Keith what’s going on between him and Daisy. Keith doesn’t want to ruin his friendship or boss-employee relationship with Gary, who gives his blessing for them to connect. Gary, lying unconvincingly through his teeth: “I completely agree.” It’s also not a blessing to start a serious relationship, which he still wants Daisy to have with him.

Blissfully unaware of the connection between Daisy and Keith, Cloyce always has his eyes on Daisy. He tells us that he went out with a 23 year old he met at the swingers club when he was 1 year old.7. There is so much to unpack there. Perhaps decades from now, thanks to his therapy, Cloyce will have a major breakthrough in what it cost him to grow up so quickly. At the non-swinging bar, Cloyce has less luck when he tries to pick up Daisy. She dismisses him with a “You are very endearing”.

When Daisy and Keith go out to smoke a cigarette, he admits that he really likes her and wants to see her after the season. They kiss while Gary watches from afar, failing to turn his disappointment into light ruckus. In the car, Cloyce is upset to learn about the kiss. Back on the boat, Daisy worries that Gary isn’t really on board with her and Keith, but Keith’s emotional security appeals to her. They kiss a little more in his bed before saying goodnight. It seems Gary finally understands that Daisy isn’t interested. He still wants to be friends with her and this is a well-behaved night for him.

Danni and Chase sleep in the master, which Daisy explains is a privilege. Stews are allowed because they are the ones who clean it. However, she plans to remove this advantage to put Danni in her place. Gary suggests that Daisy take Danni out for ice cream to talk it out. Daisy: “Absolutely not. » Instead, in the morning, she passively asks if the stews need instructions to turn the boat around.

Later, she has a follow-up with Danni. Daisy starts positively by thanking Danni for her comments and complimenting her work, but then pushes back: it’s not her job to create passion. It’s debatable: it’s definitely a manager’s job to motivate their team. Daisy says Danni claiming that only the junior stews’ initiative was getting them through charters undermined her. She pressures Danni to understand her rank and think about her position. Danni doesn’t really do this – she still thinks Daisy hates her because she’s a threat to her position – but realizes she needs to calm down and apologize in the moment. They kiss him.

It remains to be seen whether Daisy and Keith will do more hugs and kisses. Chase warns Keith that Gary, historically, doesn’t mean what he says when he gives the green light, and we get a flashback to him telling Colin to go with Daisy last season. Keith is unfazed by this: “We’re all just winking cousins at the end of the day.” »

The next primary is Detox, a drag queen from Chicago and RuPaul’s Drag Race alumna, who brings fellow drag queen Lola LeCroix, her sister and three friends, one of whom is a porn director with titles ranging from “Sweet Meat” to “Urine.” They seem to match perfectly with Sailboat the crew sensitivity. As they wait in line to greet the guests, Chase pulls down Danni’s skirt for her, and I hate to say this, but the casual intimacy is pretty hot. In a few minutes, the atmosphere is much better than that of the last rental. These guests make jokes, laugh at themselves and enjoy sailing. Jason, hilarious and deadpan: “I’m sailing now.” They also want to hang out with some members of the team, notably Daisy, promising an interesting next episode.

There’s a slight hiccup when the fresh fruit tastes like onions because Cloyce cut it on the same board, but he quickly cuts new fruit with a fresh board and knife, and Danni handles it well with the guests . The mistake sets the tone where the guests don’t really respect “the 12-year-old chef.” At dinner, everyone loves their croquettes except Lola, who calls it a stick of cheese in a ball. Daisy forwards the comments to Cloyce. They are happy with the next dish, an arugula salad with burnt goat cheese. I may not be able to taste it, but for now, I’m not impressed. To impress, Cloyce once again returns to his same playbook and uses smoke. Is the smoke from Cloyce’s beef cheeks? Unfortunately, the smoker’s battery is dead and the class is 13 minutes late. Lola is impatient and goes down to her room. It’s a cliffhanger as to when Cloyce will bring out the dishes. In an interview, Glenn makes a scripted threat that he needs someone he can rely on “at this point in the season.” This makes no sense because there is only one charter left. It’s not worth replacing Cloyce unless the smoke is so dire that his tenure goes up in flames. A girl can dream.
