As president of the FFVoile, we imagine that you are aware of the incident that occurred in Newport during the stopover of The Ocean Race?

I learned about all this last night and I confess to being surprised by the dissonance between the press release from Team Holcim-PRB and the message on Kevin Escoffier’s Instagram account which spoke of an alleged incident. I have therefore made a number of phone calls which lead me to believe that the alleged incident referred to by the skipper is in fact inappropriate behavior he allegedly displayed towards a young woman at a party in Newport.

What are you planning to do ?

These facts that have been reported to me justify that as of tomorrow, Monday, I will ask my services to make a report to the Ministry of Sports. At the federation, we have a unit for this, we have a disciplinary commission which can be brought to judge all the facts which are in contradiction with our regulations. This concerns all licensees. I am therefore going to relate the facts of which I have been informed by testimonies.

What will happen next?

I also reserve the right to take precautionary measures and/or to open disciplinary proceedings according to the tangible evidence that can be sent to me. If these facts were to be proven, these are behaviors that cannot be tolerated, they have no place in our federation. It is my duty as president to act with the greatest firmness in the face of this type of situation, which is very unpleasant.

The alleged incident did not take place in the race but at a party…

This remains to be determined, it is still unclear. It happened during the stopover, during a party. But, in his behavior, the athlete or licensee must protect the image of his sport. In addition, I heard that the World Sailing (Editor’s note: international sailing federation) would have been seized but I am not sure. For the moment, I don’t have precise information from World Sailing.
