Police arrested Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad on Saturday night for sneaking into Saif Ali Khan’s house and stabbing the actor multiple times.

His lawyer Sandeep Shekhane denied the police claims.

“Policy custody (of the accused) for 5 days has been granted. The court has asked the police to submit a report within 5 days. The police have no proof that he is Bangladeshi. Another lawyer, Dinesh Prajapati, representing the accused, said the grounds given by the police for seeking his custody are “not sufficient”.

“The police demanded custody and the reasons given by the police for custody are not sufficient… We have stated in his (accused) defense that nothing was recovered from him (accused Mohammad Shariful Islam Shehzad)…They (Police) have not produced any document to prove that he is a Bangladeshi national…The court has granted his five-day police custody,” Prajapati told ANI.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar said the accused had confessed to his crimes. He added that the accused had no idea that he was entering Saif Ali Khan’s house.

Police said the accused hailed from Jhalokati district of Bangladesh. The accused was about to flee to his native village when he was arrested from Hiranandani Estate in Thane, they added.

What happened Thursday evening?

According to Aleyamma Philip, the nanny of Saif Ali Khan’s son, the incident took place around 2 am on January 16. The man entered the house and asked 1 crore after brandishing a long knife.

Hearing the commotion, Saif Ali Khan approached the room and confronted the intruder. He was stabbed several times.

Saif Ali Khan was admitted to Lilavati Hospital. Doctors removed a 2.5-inch-long blade. He is now out of danger and will be released in a few days.
