MUMBAI: Mumbai police are likely to recreate the crime scene at Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence where he was stabbed by an intruder earlier this month, an official said on Sunday.
The accused in the high-profile case, a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man, was arrested early in the morning in the nearby town of Thane.
A court remanded the suspect in custody, Shariful Islam Shehzad Mohammad Rohilla Amin Fakirin police custody for five days.
During this period, the police are expected to take Shehzad to Khan’s apartment in the ‘Satguru Sharan’ building to recreate the sequence of events. The aim is to thoroughly investigate the circumstances of the attack.
Shehzad allegedly broke into the Bollywood star’s house in the early hours of January 16 with the intention of robbing him. According to the preliminary investigation, he climbed the stairs to the seventh or eighth floor of the building, where Khan, his wife Kareena Kapoor and their family live with domestic staff.
“He entered the duct area, climbed up to the 12th floor using a pipe and managed to gain access to the actor’s apartment through the bathroom window,” said a manager. That’s when Khan’s staff spotted him, leading to a chain of events that culminated in the violent stabbing attack.
The 54-year-old actor was stabbed multiple times and was immediately rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he underwent a five-hour surgery.
