Saido Berahino gives insight into ‘unacceptable’ negotiations with Daniel Levy that saw Tottenham transfer collapse

Saido Berahino has blamed Daniel Levy for the reason his transfer to Tottenham collapsed in 2015.

The Burundian international had a superb 2014/15 season during which he scored 20 goals in all competitions, including 14 in the Premier League.

A lengthy transfer saga then unfolded over the summer, during which then-Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino saw four bids rejected for Berahino’s services.

Berahino even submitted a transfer request in his attempt to join the north London giants, which was rejected by West Brom.

It was reported at the time that Levy was prepared to fork out just £6 million upfront for the striker, with the Baggies holding out around £30 million.

As a result, Tottenham pulled out of the deal on deadline day, with Berahino failing to return to form after seeing his big move fail.

And now the centre-forward, who eventually joined Stoke in 2017, has lifted the lid on negotiations between the two teams in an open question and answer session on social media.

Speaking to did anything to derail the deal?”

To which Berahino replied: “The payments from Right Spurs were unacceptable and West Brom wanted £30m.

“But Levy would pay £1.5 million and the rest in installments.”

A Tottenham supporter then asked the question: “Were you about to join Spurs?”

Which leads Berahino to simply state: “90 percent.”

Following his failed switch, Berahino never again managed to reach double figures in a single season.

In 56 games at Stoke in all competitions, he has only found the defense five times – with none in the top flight.

Spells at Belgian sides Zulte Waregem and Charleroi quickly followed, before enjoying some success at Sheffield Wednesday.

He currently plays for Cypriot side AEL Limassol, but appears to be on the lookout for a new club with his contract expiring soon.
