PINOLE – Safeway will close one of its East Bay stores, but intends to transfer all affected workers and keep them at work in one or more of its other supermarkets.
The supermarket chain has decided to close a Pinole store at 1421 Tara Hills Drive, Safeway said in an official operation sent to the state employment development service.
The judgment will eliminate 69 jobs there – but workers could win posts on another Safeway site.
“We intend to place all the partners in a position in another place nearby,” wrote Terra Powers, vice-president of Safeway, in a file displayed with the EDD state. “The exact position of the posts has not yet been completed.”
Safeway, based in Pleasanton, said he has taken measures to save jobs from all affected workers.
“We are not planning any layout as a result of the closure,” said Safeway in the file with the State Work Agency.
In January, Safeway revealed that he had decided to cut 156 job cuts in two office locations in Pleasanton. These are all corporate positions and none are in Safeway supermarkets. The layoffs were to occur around February 22.
As for stopping the Pinole store, Safeway said it expected the store to end the public on April 4 of this year.
“The partners will continue to work at the store to close the operations” during an unpertified period after the closure of April 4, Safeway told EDD.
