Sadiq Khan wants London to host the 2040 Olympic Games as part of its quest to make the city “the world’s sports capital”.
London 2012 turned out to be a monumental success and Khan, mayor of London since 2016, is determined to bring the games to the United Kingdom.
The Olympic Games took place in London in 1908, 1948 and 2012 and hosting matches for the fourth time would be a record.
The 2040 Olympic mission is part of a strategy aimed at stimulating the economy by providing a series of sports competitions on these coasts.
A report published by the mayor of the London office on Monday revealed that the staging of six events last year, notably the Champions League final in Wembley and the London athletics meeting, as well as NFL and the major basic League games, generated 230 million pounds Sterling for the capital. He also attracted nearly 500,000 sports fans in the city, with more than 200 million viewers connecting around the world.
Khan also intends to associate with British athletics and British sport to submit a proposal to host the world athletics championship in 2029. The championships could be worth up to 400 million pounds sterling in London and provide the perfect springboard for the Olympic offer.
London 2012 was a huge success and the Olympic Games could return to the capital in 2040

Mayor Sadiq Khan says that London already has the infrastructure in place to host the games

London has hosted lucrative games for the NFL since 2007, with what started as one per year at Wembley extending three in stadiums, including the Tottenham Hotspur stadium (photo)
England, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales have already been confirmed as hosts for Euro 2028, while the 2035 Women’s World Cup will also land on these coasts.
London will also host the final of the Women’s Rugby World Cup in Twickenham this year, which is expected to attract a world record crowd for a single female rugby event with a complete sharing.
And Khan said he would hold meetings with the government “in the near future” to discuss an offer for London to host the 2040 Olympic Games.
The and Brisbane are hosts for the 2028 and 2032 games while India is the favorite destination for 2036.
“I was in Paris last summer and I saw the transformation of their city,” Khan told Times.
“But we could get it out of the park compared to the Olympic Games, using the assets that we already have in the aquatic center, the stadium, the velodrome.
“And we could also have events outside London. London could be a center.
“With regard to the main sporting events, the public and governments are not unreasonably nervous about a huge amount of money spent on infrastructure.

London welcomed the matches three times, in 1908, 1948 and 2012, a fourth would be a record

Sir Mo Farah has also won 10,000 meters of gold – with the long flag Greg Rutherford – the same night in an unforgettable 44 minutes inside the Olympic stadium
“But the reason why 2040 makes sense to London is that we could do it in a shiny way but also very cheap.
“An Olympic Games in London would not cost a fortune but the advantages would be gigantic.”
The managers of the London office mayor also ambitiously target the superbowl.
The staging of American sports in London proved to be extremely lucrative according to the report written by Think Beyond. American sporting events have generated an estimated spectators of spectators of more than 600 million pounds sterling ” since the first London matches of the NFL in 2007, with more than three million fans present at that time.
The Super Bowl will take place in California in February 2026 and 2027 and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, is the location of 2028.
But there is a gap from 2029 and the five-hour jet lag towards the east coast of the United States should not present an insurmountable challenge.
Howard Dawber, deputy mayor of London for business and growth, told Sun: `If he was going to host him outside the United States, we are already the obvious place to do so.
“What I would say is that the mayor clearly indicated that it was a long -term ambition. This is something we would like to do. And you know, there are conversations.

Paris organized the Olympic Games from last summer which would have cost nearly 7 billion pounds sterling

Sadiq Khan opened the door to Chelsea to tell him about the plans of a new stadium
“With the NFL trying to promote itself worldwide, having a super bowl outside the United States, in a place more accessible to a large part of its fans base in Western Europe, which also makes sense to them.”
London mayor’s financial commitment to sport would have stung their ears at the Chelsea Football Club.
Blues owners plan to redevelop their Stadium existing in Stamford Bridge or buying a site in Earl’s Court to build a new house.
The latter would require a consultation with the mayor’s office and Khan is open to start a form of dialogue with the Premier League club.
“My message to Chelsea came to tell us about what you want to do,” Khan told Times.
“Chelsea is the victims of their success, and Stamford Bridge is now too small for them. After all, it’s a team that won the Champions League twice.
“ We are working in close collaboration with our seven Premier League clubs, but I am sure that Chelsea looks with a little desire in the stadiums that some of their rivals in London have.
“ We are really impatient to make sure that Chelsea, as we are with all our clubs, continue to prosper and prosper, so we are ready to talk to Chelsea of the plans they have. For the moment, they have not approached us. But we are here.
