Ryan Garcia downs beer, prays and tells crowd to ‘suck my d***’ at wild weigh-in for Devin Haney fight

Ryan Garcia looked completely out of control during Friday’s ceremonial weigh-in for the Devin Haney fight.

Rival American boxing stars were due to face off for Haney’s WBC world welterweight title, live on talkSPORT on Saturday night, but the challenger missed weight and will therefore be unable to win the belt.

Haney managed to make the super lightweight limit of 140 pounds during the commission’s official weigh-in earlier Friday, which took place behind closed doors.

Garcia, however, was 3.2 pounds over the limit of 143.2 pounds.

This briefly plunged the fight into late chaos, with both sides having to negotiate a deal to allow it to proceed as a non-title fight, which they have now managed to do.

Once this was finalized, the weigh-in ceremony took place.

There was a long delay before the fighters appeared, about 90 minutes after they were originally supposed to.

When they did, Garcia took the stage first, but refused to even wait for his opponent to join him.

He jumped straight on the scales and drank from a beer bottle, later insisting it actually contained alcohol.

Garcia then celebrated by announcing that he had missed weight.

Haney then stepped on the scale and it was announced that he had gained weight.

Before the fighters squared off, Devin’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, sparred with Garcia’s co-promoter, Bernard Hopkins.

Garcia initially tried to intervene before removing himself from the situation, standing in front of the stage and clasping his hands in prayer.

Shortly afterward, he engaged in a furious final confrontation with Haney before giving an erratic interview in which he told the booing crowd to “suck the shit out of me.”

It is remarkable that the fight continues again tomorrow evening.

Devin Haney vs. Ryan Garcia will be live on talkSPORT starting at 4 a.m. Sunday morning.
