- Listen now: everything is launched! Should Marcus Rashford leave Man United to direct the attack by Aston Villa?
Ruud Van Nistelrooy underlined his disappointment after Leicester City was relegated to the championship, but admitted that he was still in the dark on his own future at the club.
“It’s very disappointing – the weeks preceded this,” said Van Nistelrooy, who took over from Steve Cooper in November and won only two of his 21 Premier League games. “We have always continued to fight for each piece of hope that we had. We must continue to use the games to end the season in the best possible way, ”added the Leicester boss.
Asked about his future, Van Nistelrooy, who is contracted until 2027, said: “I focus on taking my responsibility for doing the best things for the future and next season. Performance like Brighton and Liverpool game are signs that players are ready to do so. We have to take responsibility and that’s what I do in the next five weeks and after that, we have to see.
The Dutchman revealed that no date had been put for a conversation with the club’s hierarchy, but that he expects him to expect talks that will soon be held. He won only eight points in 21 games, against Cooper, who won 10 points in 12.
And Van Nistelrooy, 48, admitted that work was much more difficult than expected, saying that the Gulf in class between the promoted teams and the rest was too much, with the fate of Southampton already sealed and Ipswich who join the championship next season.
“I expected to get more points than I could get,” he said. “I think there are very good performances and that is what we said in press conferences and there were games where we did not succeed in our capacities. More than 33 games, this is the level of the three teams promoted – the gap was too important compared to the other 17 teams – it is a quality difference with two already relegated teams and the other 15 points with five games – this is the first conclusion and the most important ”
Van Nistelrooy revealed that his long -term future in Leicester is uncertain after their relegation

The Foxes underwent a 1-0 defeat against Liverpool to confirm their demotion with five games to do

Despite the lamentable form of Leicester, in which they collected eight points in 20 championship games under Van Nistelrooy, the Dutch insisted that he would not have changed his approach
Leicester is the first high -level history team to have assumed nine consecutive games in the home League without scoring, having scored last time at home in December, but Van Nistelrooy insisted that he would not change that he did.
“I did everything in the interest of the club, so no, I would not change,” he said. “It’s my job to make decisions before and not after. After you can say, it was good or it was not good. The decisions I made with all the clubs of the club were made with a single goal and it was to bring points on the table. There are no regrets in there.
