Rust Gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed Called Jurors ‘Assholes’ and ‘Idiots’ in Furious, Unrepentant Jail Calls, Prosecutors Say Ahead of Sentencing TODAY

Prosecutors are seeking an additional 18 months in prison for Rust gunsmith Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, who faces sentencing Monday after being found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins.

Hutchins was accidentally shot while filming on the set of Rust in October 2021 while Alec Baldwin was training with a gun with unloaded live ammunition that was Gutierrez-Reed’s responsibility.

Prosecutors accused Gutierrez-Reed during a two-week trial of unwittingly bringing live ammunition to the set of “Rust,” where it was expressly prohibited. They also said she failed to follow basic gun safety protocols.

The jury convicted her in March of involuntary manslaughter, which carries a prison sentence of up to 18 months and a $5,000 fine.

They say Gutierrez-Reed, 26, showed no remorse for her actions and used foul language to describe the jurors who convicted her and should see her sentence doubled.

Special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis filed a response to a request by Gutierrez-Reed for parole arguing that she deserved just the opposite.

Morrissey urged the judge to impose the maximum prison term and designate Gutierrez-Reed as a “serious violent offender” to limit his eligibility for a reduced sentence later, describing the defendant’s behavior on the set of ” Rust” as exceptionally reckless.

She said Gutierrez-Reed has shown a lack of remorse, citing comments Gutierrez-Reed made in jail phone calls with her mother, her boyfriend and her attorney’s legal assistant that are monitored by authorities.

These comments include references to the jury that found her guilty of “assholes”, “idiots” and “r*****s”.

They also said she wanted Baldwin, who fired the gun that killed Hutchins, to also go to prison and refuse to testify at his upcoming trial because she “should not be subpoenaed if Baldwin didn’t show up for her.” ‘

“Hannah wants them to put Alec Baldwin in jail, too,” prosecutors added in the filing.

She also tried to get her legal team to ask Hutchins’ widower and son to speak on her behalf at her sentencing and was angry at how the conviction harmed both her life and her potential modeling career.

They say she did all of this without ever “expressing true remorse at any time,” while claiming that the witnesses who testified at trial are lying.

Gutierrez-Reed also faces another charge, according to prosecutors, for concealing a firearm from security personnel at a New Mexico bar.

” After successfully bypassing security at the bar, she went to the bathroom and made a selfie video declaring “They checked my purse but they didn’t mess with my ass! “Wah, wah, wah,” the filing says.

She also claims other inmates told her, “I can’t believe they threw your pretty little white ass in here for nothing” and compared prison food to cat food.

Attorney Jason Bowles told NBC News in a statement that his legal team “will most likely file a response tomorrow.”

Gutierrez-Reed was convicted in March by a jury of manslaughter in the death of cinematographer Hutchins and has been held for more than a month in a county jail in suburban Santa Fe.

Baldwin, the lead actor and co-producer of “Rust,” was pointing a gun at Hutchins when the gun went off, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza.

The 30 Rock actor has pleaded not guilty to manslaughter and claims he removed the hammer from the gun, but not the trigger, before the gun went off.

His trial is scheduled for July before the same judge, Mary Marlowe Sommer, who oversaw Gutierrez-Reed’s trial.
