The MIVD has revealed several recent Russian operations in the Netherlands, including the first cyber-sabotage attack known by a group of Russian hackers targeting the Dutch public installation systems not specified in 2024. According to the report, the impact of the attack was minimal and did not lead to any damage.
The agency also detected a Russian cyber-operation targeting critical infrastructure in the Netherlands, potentially in preparation for future sabotage. The operation did not succeed, noted the report.
“We live in a gray area between war and peace,” said Dutch Minister of Defense Ruben Brekelmans on the report.
“To avoid vulnerabilities in the face of Russia, a rapid increase in our armed forces and our defense industry is essential. It is only then that we can prevent new Russian attacks in Europe,” he added.
