Russian artillery ammunition actions take place to triple the United States and Europe: General

Russia can lose weapons, tanks and ammunition at an amazing pace in Ukraine, but its defense production will easily compensate for this on Thursday, an American general told Congress on Thursday.

The American army general Christopher Cavoli, Supreme Comb commander of NATO in Europe, told the Senate committee of armed services that Washington expects Russia to produce 250,000 artillery shells monthly.

“This places it on the right track to build a stock of stocks three times higher than the United States and Europe combined,” read the Cavoli Declaration to the Committee.

General Four Stars has concentrated his appearance in Capitol Hill by urging legislators to strengthen defense ties with allies across the pond, saying that they must work in close collaboration to contain an increasingly hostile Russia.

Among Cavoli’s main concerns is its evaluation that Russia quickly reconstructs its losses in Ukraine – and becomes even stronger compared to war.

“Despite many loss of battlefields in Ukraine, the Russian army reconstitutes and develops at a faster rate than most analysts had planned it,” wrote Cavoli.

He said Moscow quickly replaces his forces on all fronts, including ammunition, armored vehicles and troops.

The United States is now making around 40,000 155 mm artillery shells per month and hopes to reach a monthly production capacity of 90,000 rpm in 2026.

Meanwhile, the European Union is committed to reaching a manufacturing capacity of 2 million laps per year, or around 167,000 laps per month. However, its leaders estimated that it will only reach this level at the end of 2025.

Many of these cycles are sent to Ukraine, although NATO countries also care to maintain their own stocks.

If Ukraine receives 2 million shells per year, it can draw just under 5,500 per day. Cavoli, on the other hand, said at a defense conference in February 2023 that Russia spent 20,000 shells per day on average.

In his declaration at Congress on Thursday, Cavoli also warned that Russia should produce more than 10 times the number of tanks that the United States manufactures.

He said Russia would probably manufacture 1,500 tanks each year, while the United States manufactures 135 tanks per year.

“Russian land forces in Ukraine have lost around 3,000 tanks, 9,000 armored vehicles, 13,000 artillery systems and more than 400 air defense systems in the past year-but are underway to replace them all,” he wrote.

As a supreme NATO commander in Europe, Cavoli works in close collaboration with Ukraine. A large element of the New York Times recently reported that Cavoli had regularly met and advised Ukrainian generals and commanders in a secret base in Germany.

Cavoli’s testimony occurs while the Trump administration plans a major upheaval in the role of the Pentagon in NATO, in particular by potentially abandoning an American official as a supreme allied commander in Europe.

The position has always been held by an American military official.

Addressing the Armed Services Committee, Cavoli has urged caution for this decision, saying that it could pose difficulties in controlling the United States on its nuclear forces in Europe.

“This would put us in a position where, in a situation of article 5, we could, for the first time since the First World War, a large number of American troops under non-American command,” he added.
