On Sunday, the Russian Ministry of Defense said the capture of a village in the Sumy region in Ukraine in a rare cross -border advance.
“A unit of the northern group group during offensive actions released the village of Basovka in the Sumy region,” the ministry said in a statement, using the Russian name in the village of Basivka near the border with the Russia Kursk region.
The beginning of March, Russia claimed the capture of a village in the Sumy region for the first time since the first days of the war in 2022, saying that the troops had taken Novenke, a few kilometers from Basivka.
President Vladimir Putin said in March that the Russian forces had crossed the border, the state media reporting that it was referring to the Sumy region.
But Ukraine said his troops pushed attempts by small groups of Russian soldiers trying to enter his territory.
Ukraine troops set up an foray into the Kursk Russia region last August, but Moscow recently recovered a large part of this territory.
A message from Moscow Times:
Dear readers,
We are faced with unprecedented challenges. The Office of the Prosecutor General of Russia has appointed Moscow Times as an “undesirable” organization, criminalizing our work and putting our staff at risk of prosecution. This follows our anterior unfair labeling as a “foreign agent”.
These actions are direct attempts to silence independent journalism in Russia. The authorities claim that our work “discredits the decisions of the Russian management”. We see things differently: we strive to provide precise and impartial relationships on Russia.
We, the journalists of Moscow Times, refuse to be silenced. But to continue our work, we need your help.
