The Kremlin also expressed its gratitude for the North Korean troops deployed in the region to help Russia ‘efforts, Gerasimov greeting their “courage and heroism”, according to Interfax. This is the first time that the Kremlin has confirmed the presence of North Korean troops, which could have up to 11,000, according to Ukrainian and South Korean estimates.
