If Putin stays away, it could influence the Mercurial Trump to support Ukraine more strongly, said Volodymyr Fesenko, Ukrainian political analyst, head of the Penta Center for Political Research.
“If Putin refuses, it means that he does not want negotiations, it means that he can look like a loser in Trump’s eyes. Although the way Trump perceives all of this is always a big question,” said Fesenko.
Trump made this warning in his social post, saying that there must be an effort to conclude an agreement. “At least they will be able to determine whether an agreement is possible or not, and whether it is not the case, European leaders and the United States will know where everything is and can proceed accordingly,” wrote Trump.
The two sides settles furiously against each other.
Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for the Kremlin, accused Ukraine on Monday of breaking the ceasefront and warned of a “simplistic approach” of talks.
Moscow also says that kyiv must first cancel his 2022 ban on negotiations with Russian leaders.
