A traveler train has derailed Russia The Bryansk region, which borders Ukraine, late Saturday after a bridge collapsed following an explosion.
Alexander Bogomaz, the regional governor of Bryansk, said on the Telegram messaging application that seven people died in the collapse, which occurred in the Vygonichskyi district near a federal motorway.
“There are seven dead following the collapse of a bridge over the railways,” he wrote. More than 60 are injured, including three children, with one in critical condition.
What do we know about the collapse of the bridge?
The train came out of its tracks while it was on the road to the Russian capital of Moscow in Klimov in the west of the country, the Moscow railways said in a press release.
He initially declared that the bridge had been damaged “following an illegal interference in transport operations” without developing, but the position was deleted later.
Bogomaz then confirmed reports on an explosion at the bridge.
“There was an explosion on the deck on the route while the Klimovo-Moscow train was traveling, with 388 passengers on board,” he said on state television.
Russia’s investigation committee also said in a statement that a “road bridge had collapsed following an explosion” in the Bryansk region at 10:50 pm (1950) on Saturday.
The victimized area is approximately 100 kilometers (62 miles) from the Ukrainian border. Ukraine has not commented on the collapse of the bridge or the derailed train.
The second bridge collapses in Kursk
A few hours later, a second bridge collapsed in the Kursk border region, which borders Ukraine. The Kursk region was the site of a Ukrainian foray into Russia last August.
Russian investigators explicitly said that the two bridges had been exploded.
“The incidents have been classified as acts of terrorism,” said Svetlana Petrenko, spokesperson for the Russian investigation committee, quoted by the news agency Ria Novosti.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russian Vladimir Putin had been informed of explosions during the two bridges.
