Russian authorities say they have detained a man described as a “Ukrainian special services agent” as part of a car explosion that killed Russian General Yaroslav Moskalik on Friday.
The suspect would have bought the car that exploded in Balashikha, less than 20 miles east of Moscow, according to Tass citing the Federal Security Service of Russia. The nationality of the suspect is not clear; According to the FSB, it has a residence permit in Ukraine.
The FSB also accused him of planting an explosive device in the car, but said that he had been exploded from Ukraine. The video published by Tass on Saturday seemed to show charred electronics and games of the car. The Russia’s inquiry committee had previously declared that the explosion had been caused by an improvised explosive device filled with bus apparatus.
The Russian general Moskalik was deputy chief of the main operations department of the general staff of the Russian armed forces. The Russian military blog influences Rybar said Moskalik was not in the Volkswagen car when she exploded, but was close to him after leaving a neighboring building. CNN cannot independently check this report.
The photos published by the Russian authorities seem to show the suspect who leads a dark green Volkswagen with license plates that allegedly correspond to the site of the explosion.
Tass Video has also shown that man was put in a van and included images of him apparently in detention describing his recruitment presumed by the special services of Ukraine. It is not known if he was under constraint during the confession.
No one claimed the responsibility of the explosion. CNN contacted the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to comment on the suspected bonds of the suspect with Ukraine.
Moskalik was killed the same day as the American special envoy Steve Witkoff met Russian President Vladimir Putin at the Kremlin to discuss efforts to end the Russian war against Ukraine.
After the three -hour meeting, American president Donald Trump initially expressed his optimism that the two parties were “very close to an agreement”.
But the next day, Trump wondered if Putin wanted a peace agreement shortly after meeting the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky at the Vatican for the funeral of Pope Francis.
In a social post of truth sent by returning from Rome after the meeting, Trump raised the prospect of applying new sanctions against Russia after its assault against kyiv last week.
“There was no reason for Putin to get missiles in civil areas, cities and cities, in the past few days,” wrote Trump. “It makes me think that he may not want to stop war, he simply makes me hit and must be treated differently, through” banks “or” secondary sanctions? Too many people die !!! ”
