kyiv and Moscow exchanged the blame on Sunday for a strike in a school in a city occupied by the Ukrainian in the Kursk region in Russia, while kyiv said that weekend missiles and drone attacks killed minus 15 people in Ukraine.
Fighting in the almost three-year war did not show any signs of defense, despite the promise of US President Donald Trump to promulgate a cease-fire in the “24 hours” after taking office on January 20.
Russia and Ukraine have each accused the other of killing civilians since the start of the war, with the last blame exchanged in Sudzha, a city occupied by the Ukrainian near the border.
The Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday that four people had been killed during an attack the day before on an old three -story school to reflect evacuated civilians, with dozens of other dicks of the rubble.
Russia has not given an assessment for the strike, but accused kyiv of target the school in a “crime which has no forgiveness and no limitation period”.
Throughout Ukraine, at least 15 people were killed while the Russian strikes hit the center and the east of the country during the night on Friday until Saturday, according to regional authorities and the police.
Eleven people, including a child, were killed in Poltava when a missile struck a residential building early on Saturday, the local administration said.
The officials said that at least 16 people were injured while rescuers used cranes to comb the ruins of the smoking building for the survivors.
“On the fifth floor, a woman, my friend, was made,” said Olena Svyryd, local of Poltava.
“She is not alive. She was crushed by the wall. There have been many victims.”
Three other people were killed on weekends in the Sumy region, and one in Kharkiv, according to the Ukrainian authorities.
In Sudzha, which Ukraine has occupied for more than five months, kyiv accused Russia of using guided bombs in the former boarding school, making the February 1 strike against its own civilians.
“The Russian aviation made a strike with the help of an guided air bomb at a temporary place of residence of the civilian population,” the Ukrainian Air Force said on Sunday.
“Hitting civilians with bombs is a signature style of Russian criminals! Even when civilians are local residents, the Russians.”
The Air Force had tolls on four dead, four seriously injured and 80 rescued.
Moscow responded Sunday by accusing kyiv’s attack forces.
“On February 1, the Ukrainian armed forces committed another war crime by launching a missile strike targeted in an internship in the city of Sudzha,” a statement from the Russian Defense Ministry said.
The ministry has not mentioned any death, while the active governor of the Kursk region, Aleksandr Khinshtein, said “that there is no reliable information on the number of victims”.
Kyiv launched a surprise operation in the Kursk region last August, entering dozens of villages and small towns, including the Southzha regional center – which houses around 6,000 people before fighting.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called Russia “without civility”, sharing a video on social networks showing a strongly damaged building, as well as a injured man lying on the ground.
“They destroyed the building even if dozens of civilians were there,” said Zelensky in an article on X. “Russian bombs destroy Ukrainian houses in the same way. And even against their own civilians, the Russian army uses similar tactics. “
A Russian official in Kursk told AFP last week that the authorities were working “constantly” to guarantee the return of Russian civilians taken behind the front lines.
Thousands of people are believed to be trapped by fighting in the border region.
Moscow has been advancing on the battlefield for more than a year, and its invasion of Ukraine will reach this month will reach the three-year brand.
The Russian army said on Saturday that his troops had “released” the village of Krymske in the northeast suburbs of the city of Totretsk.
Totretsk, in the Donetsk Eastern region, has been in the speeds of the Kremlin for months, because its capture would allow Russia to obstruct vital Ukrainian supply routes.
Trump and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin said they were ready for talks to end the war, but none said when or how.
Trump criticized the billions of dollars that Washington spent Armer Ukraine, while threatening to impose additional sanctions on Russia if Putin does not reach a “agreement” to end the war.
Putin said last month that he was ready to speak with Ukraine, but not with Zelensky that he called “illegitimate”.
