The Switch Online service has already expanded to GameCube games this year, and the Virtual Boy library will return early next year. Now, a new Nintendo patent filed in April and released this week has sparked rumors about the potential return of Nintendo DS games in the future.
As pointed out by Mike Odyssey on social media (via GoNintendo), the three detailed dual-screen gaming methods include “Dual screen (parent and child screens), single screen mode (picture-in-picture), and switching mode (switching between screens).” You can read the summary and see each image in the article:
The Nintendo DS library was previously featured on the Wii U’s Virtual Console service. It featured over 30 games and supported touch interaction on the system’s GamePad. Given that this particular collection has already appeared on a Nintendo online service, it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise if it resurfaces at some point in the future.
Of course, this is just a patent, so it doesn’t necessarily guarantee that anything is in the works for Switch Online’s “Nintendo Classics” library, and it could just be that Nintendo is going about its usual business. If we hear anything else about this latest discovery, we’ll let you know.
