Ruben Amorim thinks that Manchester United deserves to be superior to the 16th row of the Premier League table – but it is reluctant to say it because people think it is “crazy”.
United is already condemned to finish in its lowest position in the era of the Premier League, and could even find themselves above the relegation zone if they do not collect the points of Friday visit to Chelsea and the last match of the season against Aston Villa in Old Trafford per week on Sunday.
Amorim admitted after the defeat of last weekend against West Ham that he was “embarrassed” by the situation, and also expressed his concerns that his players are too ready to accept defeat.
However, he thinks that statistics – especially in front of the objective – show that United should win more games and higher from the table, although this point can leave it openly to ridicule.
“It is difficult to talk about it without looking like a crazy, but if you see the XG (goals expected), for example, in the last games, ours is larger,” said the united boss.
“Against wolves, we are so close and they mark a set. It was the first time that they have reached our goal and they have scored and we had our opportunities, especially in the second half.

“I can understand this, but it’s hard to talk about it right now. Let us focus on the finish in the right direction, then we will prepare the future at the end of the season.
Amorim spoke to his players of the importance of ending the Premier League season strongly, even if they have the final of the Europa League against Tottenham in Bilbao on Wednesday evening.
While United prepares to face Chelsea, he added: “The best way is to face the game as we should face the game: it’s to win the game. We have to play, we have to win points in the Premier League and that’s the feeling.
“We talk about it after West Ham. We have to improve in the way we face competitions. Stay concentrated at every moment of the match because against West Ham, we had clear situations to score. Since West Ham’s first opportunity, they score a goal, so these little details have been counting.
“The only way I know to prepare a final is in the normal game, we have to play in the same way as a final.”
