Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods Get Very Different Outcomes in Match Against Bryson DeChambeau
Bryson DeChambeau is the latest sports megastar to take on the “winner stays in the spotlight” challenge – and has been transformed and changed like no one else.
The two-time US Open champion is one of the fittest golfers on the planet right now, so his take on the sport’s greats was in high demand, and he didn’t disappoint.
After a difficult start to the match with two European legends, Seve Ballesteros and Rory McIlroy, the American opted for the latter, then instantly dropped him.
Vijay Singh took over, but again only briefly, as McIlroy was dealt another blow with LIV Golf CEO Greg Norman being the first to fill the role, beating out Ernie Els and Billy Casper before DeChambeau emerged as a golf history buff.
Gene Sarazen, a Grand Slam winner in the 1920s and 1930s, then spoke, saying, “Come on, the technology is so different!”

The baton was then passed from Tom Watson to Phil Mickelson and then to Byron Nelson, with DeChambeau commenting: “It’s tough. It’s not tough actually, it’s pretty easy, Byron has done some pretty crazy stuff.”
Nelson then knocked out icons Arnold Palmer and Gary Player, before record major winner Jack Nicklaus appeared to have prevailed.
He was, however, surpassed by the second-most-played player on the all-time major winners list, Tiger Woods, whom DeChambeau even picked himself at the very end.
DeChambeau, however, has every right to be part of the conversation, having emerged on the scene in spectacular fashion in recent years.
The 30-year-old won his second US Open in spectacular fashion in June, capitalising on McIlroy’s dramatic collapse to claim the honours again on home soil.
His two major victories put him at 47th on the all-time list, tied with some of the aforementioned greats such as Greg Norman.
He will have to wait until 2025 before adding to that total, after seeing compatriot Xander Schauffele take over this year with victories at The Open and the PGA Championship.
McIlroy will have the chance to avenge his US Open loss to DeChambeau when the two men face off in a one-off match later this year.
Golfweek has revealed that pairs of the greatest players from each rival tour will face off in a televised match later this year.
McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler will team up on the PGA Tour to face Brooks Koepka and DeChambeau for Team LIV.
The publication says the match will take place in mid-December in Las Vegas and will be broadcast on TNT.
McIlroy confirmed his participation in the event to Golfweek.
“I’m excited to partner with Scottie in what promises to be an exciting showdown against Bryson and Brooks in Vegas in December,” he wrote in a text message.
