Romania Foils “Revolution” of the pro -Russia group with a 101 -year -old man – politico

Romania arrested six people – including a 101 -year -old general, in the Holocaust, retired – for betrayal for having allegedly plotting a coup supported by Russia against the government in Bucharest, Romania organized by the Crime Investigation Agency (Diicot) announced on Thursday.

The group of conspirators, which was created in 2023 and has a military structure, sought to undermine “the sovereignty and independence of the Romanian state by politically undermining the country’s defense capacity,” the Diicot said in a statement.

The members of the group wanted to remove Romania from NATO and planned to change the name, flag and anthem of the country, according to the agency.

Radu Theodoru, the 101 -year -old general, who occupied a leading position in the Grand Party of Romania, is known to rent the fascist movement of Romania and have anti -Semitic opinions.

Theodoru and others also planned to dissolve the current political parties, to suppress the Constitution and to install a new government featuring “a council of wise men, a council of the elders and local committees of the ancestors” where the members of the group take up positions, said the agency.

The news comes one day after Romania exiled two suspected Russian diplomats that they met with members of the group of conspirators, who was called “paramilitary group”.

“The two Russian diplomats carried out intelligence collection activities in fields of strategic interest and took measures to support the unconstitutional efforts of the group,” Romania’s intelligence service said on Thursday.

The Russian Embassy in Bucharest declared on Facebook that it considered the decision “unjustified, hostile and reserves the right to take reprisal measures”.

Romania has been faced with an increasing Russian influence in recent months after a brands of pro -Russian shooting, far -right and a skeptic of NATO – Călin Georgescu – came out of nowhere to win the first round of the presidential vote. But the Constitutional Court canceled the cycle of the presidential election after an alleged Russian operation was considered to influence the result.
