Los Angeles (AP) – The career of Roki Sasaki with Los Angeles Dodgers is not a sensational party.
For a young launcher who was a dominant force at all the other stages of his dazzling baseball career, it is both a surprise and a challenge.
The beginnings of the Sasaki Dodger stadium ended in the second round on Saturday evening after the right -handed right now had trouble with its control. He published four walks and obtained only five withdrawals while launching 61 throws at only 12 strikers before manager Dave Roberts pulled him.
Sasaki made his major league debut last week Against Chicago Cubs in TokyoWhere he walked five in three rounds while launching only 25 strikes from 56 throws. Back in Los Angeles, he granted two points and three simple while launching 32 strikes and falling several times behind the tigers at the start of the account.
Sasaki did not blame the nervousness for his wilderness, although his manager and his receiver said that it had to be a factor.
“I felt like I was being able to enter the game fairly well, without any nerves,” said Sasaki via the interpreter Will Ireton. “I just didn’t feel like I had the stuff today.”
It is far too early for the Dodgers seriously care about Sasaki, but the 23 -year -old prospect presented the most impressive young launcher in Japan for several years has not yet found his groove with Los Angeles.
Aside from the control problems for a launcher who has constantly struck the striking area throughout his mandate with the Marines of Chiba Lotte, Sasaki does not obtain the consistency of his separator, which can be unshakable in its best.
“We have fully self -confident,” said the receiver Will Smith. “He is a super talented launcher. He knows what he is doing. He launched on the biggest stages and things like that. So go back to the drawing board. Have a good enclosure this week, and I expect him to come back in five, six days and be dominant.”
A crowd of 51,788 Rugi for Sasaki before his first launch in Chavez Ravine, but he had trouble setting up at the start of his first round of 41 steps. Detroit had five Baserunners and scored twice: Manuel Margot obtained a credit for a simple RBI on a 30 -foot Squib, and Trey Sweeney drew a 10 -point walk with the loaded bases.
“The Dodger stadium is intimidating,” said Smith. “There are four decks here. It’s noisy. It’s fun. It takes a lot to be able to happen here. Once again, we have fully confidence in Roki. He will settle down. He will start to throw better. He will start to dominate soon. It will be really good for us.”
Sasaki issued two other walks in the second, and Roberts decided to end these beginnings before becoming ugly.
“All he is known is success, and therefore I think he is certainly upset, disappointed,” said Roberts. “But you must be a pro and go back to work, and this is not the first time that the launcher leaving has two bad outings. It is a learning curve.”
Everything was not poor against the Sasaki Tigers, who skipped a quick bullet of 97 MPH after Riley Greene for one of his two stick withdrawals. Zach McKinstry’s single head was the only hard tiger ball.
But this is clearly not what Sasaki had in mind when he decided to jump to the United States with the defending champion of the World Series Dodgers, who said from the start that the development of Sasaki was far from over.
“I don’t expect me to repair everything in a short period of time,” said Sasaki. “However, I’m going to say, I’m going to launch every week, so I expect a major league launcher to be able to put quality outings. But that’s something I can expect to work throughout.”
Jack Dreyer replaced Sasaki and came out of the second -round jam, removing Kerry Carpenter on four throws. The formidable alignment and enclosure of Los Angeles’s readers easily covered for Sasaki’s difficulties, going to a 7-3 victory and keeping the Dodgers (5-0) perfect to start the season.
Sasaki’s next departure is next weekend in Philadelphia. He will have time to work on his problems in the coming weeks, because the Dodgers have enough days off in April to keep Sasaki with a comfortable rest schedule.
Although the club does not have a firm calendar for Shohei Ohtani to join the rotation, The MVP NL launched an enclosure of the lifts Saturday when he accumulates towards a possible return to the mound in May. When Ohtani returns, the dodgers probably go to a rotation of six men.
