Rod Stewart, aware that his ‘days are numbered’ as he approaches his 80th birthday: ‘I’m not afraid’
In his heart he will always remain young.
Rod Stewart has admitted that his impending 80th birthday in January hasn’t changed his outlook on living life to the fullest.
Although death is not at the forefront of his thoughts, he is aware of what awaits him in the coming years as he concludes his 13-year residency in Las Vegas in August.
“I know my days are numbered, but I’m not afraid,” Stewart told the US Sun. “We all have to die at some point, so we’re all in the same basket.”

He added: “I’m going to enjoy these last few years as much as I can. I say a few years, probably another 15. I can do that easily, mate, easily.”

Stewart is set to conclude his 13-year Las Vegas residency at Caesar’s Palace in August, but only time will tell what’s truly in store for the rock legend.
“I am aware that my days are numbered, but I am not afraid.”
“I’m not like I was in the ’70s and ’80s anymore. I can’t stay up all night, get drunk and go crazy and still have a voice like that,” he said. “Nowadays, I have to protect my voice before and after every show.”
He added: “The older you get, the more you have to do that. Water has a lot to do with it. But no, you think I just have water on my pants? You talk to Rod Stewart, my friend. We go crazy after every show. There’s 13 of us, six women, really good musicians and I make them drink. We love it.”
Despite his rock star lifestyle on stage, Stewart, who has battled prostate and thyroid cancer, is still “more health conscious now than before.”

Aside from the performances he gives every night to his fans in Sin City, he is still thinking about building a race track at home in the UK and trying to “break the world record for a 79-year-old man”.
“I’m going to enjoy these last few years as much as I can. I’d say a few years, probably another 15. I can do that easily, mate, easily.”
“I don’t see any chance of slowing down in the near future,” Stewart told HELLO! magazine. “And as I get older, I really only want to do things that bring me a lot of pleasure.”
Penny Lancaster, Stewart’s wife of 17 years, echoed similar sentiments.
“He loves what he does so much that he’ll never retire,” she said. “He’s a workaholic who’s constantly on the move. I have a hard time keeping up with his training schedule. He trains three or four times a week, even on tour.”

What keeps the “Maggie May” singer thriving on and off stage at 79? Lancaster attributed it to one essential element in his life.
“I think it’s the family,” “Especially the younger generation. They give it strength and dynamism,” she said.
Stewart is a father of eight children. He was previously married to Alana Stewart and Rachel Hunter, and also had children with his former partners Kelly Emberg and Susannah Boffey, in addition to his children with Lancaster.

“He’s not your average 79-year-old. He can’t sit still and is always on the move. I like to treat myself to a facial or a massage. He can’t do that. He can’t get a massage for more than half an hour; he gets up and leaves.”
