SPRING VALLEY, NY (CBSNewYork) – A Rockland County high school had to quickly switch to distance learning for all students on Wednesday after mold was discovered in the building.
School officials informed parents Tuesday night that Spring Valley High School would be closed for at least the rest of the week.

The district says it has been informed of a “suspicion of hazardous materials” in some classrooms and has taken action out of excess of caution.

“The challenge is that if the mold is alleviated, there are other chemicals in the building that could be exacerbated,” said Superintendent Dr. Clarence Ellis. “We will go through the report. We will take further action. We will communicate to the community, as well as to the press, what our next steps will be. “

The SAT and PSAT tests were scheduled to take place at the school on Wednesday. These tests will now be reprogrammed.
