Robert Eggers returns to Focus Features after the phenomenal success of Nosferatu becoming the studio’s second highest-grossing film in the United States with $90.5 million behind Downton Abbey, and it is with the new genre film Werwulf.
Photo he co-wrote with The NorthernerSjón’s will be released on Christmas Day 2026 in North America.
Focus Features product and finance. Eggers and Sjón will produce alongside Focus Features, with Maiden Voyage’s Chris and Eleanor Columbus serving as executive producers.
The title of the film makes it clear what Eggers’ latest will be about.
To date, Eggers and Focus have teamed up on all of his films, including the one released on A24. The witch And The lighthouse whose specialist label Uni managed international distribution via Universal International.
Nosferatu has earned $156.3 million worldwide to date. The film is entering its eighth weekend at the box office. The film was released yesterday on PVOD, representing a 27-day cinematic window compared to the standard 18-day window that Focus followed for its pictures. Universal’s calculations on their films have shown that the box office of films does not slow down much when they come to PVOD. Uni’s highest-grossing film on PVOD was Wicked which grossed over $70 million in its first week.
Nosferatu easily became Eggers’ highest-grossing film with a $21.6 million 3-day opening and $40.8 million 5-day opening, ahead of his previous film, The Northerner, which was co-financed between Focus and New Regency, debuting at $12.2 million domestically and earning $34.2 million in the US/Canada and $69.6 million worldwide.
Nosferatu is up for five BAFTA awards, including Best Cinematography, Costume Design, Hair and Makeup, Original Score and Production Design.
