Robert de Niro’s daughter, Airyn de Niro, details his experience by leaving as a trans woman.
“I think that a large part of (my transition) is also the influence that black women have had on me,” said the 29 -year -old woman, who uses her pronouns, in an interview published on Tuesday.
“I think I entered this new identity, while being more proud of my darkness, makes me feel closer to them in one way or another.”
Alyn, which of Niro shares with actress Toukie Smith, began hormone therapy in November 2024 and described himself as a “late block”.
She declared to the point of sale that seeing other trans women share their experiences and their successes made her realize that he was “not too late” for her to do the same.
As for the way her family reacted to the news, Aryn – who was born by the name of Aaron – said that she had accepted her “queerness” when she was first gay out in high school.
However, she continues to fear that they consider her the same person that she was pre-transition.
Alyn admitted that she always had difficulties with her type of body as a “coarse person” in a family of “thin or fit” individuals.
“I stood out in a way like a sore thumb and there was no one in my family who could relate to this experience,” she said.
“I have always been told that I was too much of something or not enough of something growing: too big, not thin enough. Not black enough, not white enough. Too feminine, not male enough,” continued Amyn.
She argued that there is a difference between being visible and seeing, saying: “I was visible. I don’t think I have been seen yet. ”
Alyn also told them that she was pursuing an acting career and model, just like her mother, in the hope of being an “inspiration for at least another person like (she) who is black, who is queer, who is not a very small size”.
“I would like to see more trans women, more black women who may be more full-bodied or who do not correspond to the mold of super thin or chic heroine,” she said.
Robert, 81, welcomed Airyn and his twin brother, Julian Henry de Niro, with the girlfriend of the Smith era, 72, in 1995.
The star of “Taxi Driver” is also the father of Drena de Niro, 57, Raphael de Niro, 48, Elliot de Niro, 27, Helen Grace de Niro, 13, and Gia Virginia Chen-de Niro, 2, of various relationships.
