RIP, the Tesla $ 16,000 cybertruck end extensor

RIP, Cybertruck Range Extender.

Cybertruck owners can no longer pay $ 16,000 more for an accessory to extend the range of their vehicle.

A Tesla customer service representative confirmed Thursday to Business Insider that Tesla no longer sold the extensor of the Cybertruck range, and customers who had previously deposited $ 2,000 to reserve the accessory was reimbursed. Elektrek previously reported the news.

The complementary battery was initially marketed as arriving in mid-2025. The battery would have taken a third of the Cybertruck bed.

With the battery, Tesla said that the double-engine variant would reach around 445 miles of range, the high-end variant range “Cyberbeast” tri-engine would be extended by more than 415 miles. The cancellation comes after Tesla delayed the extension of Cybertruck beach in October and reduced its estimate of the initial beach by 25 miles. Speculation on additional delays started last month when the automaker removed the battery from the Cybertruck online configurator.

The battery would have helped the TV van to deliver specifications closer to what Tesla and Elon Musk initially announced to customers. When the car manufacturer announced the electric van in 2019, he said that the most upscale model would provide more than 500 miles in range and cost $ 77,000, with cheaper versions at a price of $ 39,900 and $ 49,900.

It did not happen. The Cybertruck was then launched with a fork announced below between 301 and 318 miles and at prices tens of thousands of dollars, with the series of bases of $ 120,000 first dispatched in 2023 and the cheapest version for $ 60,990.

Musk also said that cybertruck could temporarily work as a boat with the ability to “cross rivers, lakes and even seas that are not too agitated”. Although the vehicle can cross about 30 inches of water for a limited time, the boat functionality has not materialized. Musk has since declared that Tesla would publish an update which allows her to “cross at least 100 meters of water as a boat”, and declared in an article on X in April on a video of a Tesla crossing a lake and declared “with a little work, he should be able to cross free water.”

The cancellation of the extensor beach is the last setback for the vehicle. While some owners struggle with anti-TESLA vandalism and harassment on the road in the middle of the Musk’s demonstrations, the vehicle fought against sales. A reminder of March 20 revealed that Tesla had delivered less than 50,000 cybertrucks, and the workers also told Bi that the automaker had reduced the production of the van.
