Rihanna rocked the sportswear trend that dominated 2024

Like everyone following the Olympics, Rihanna has been getting her fill of sports this month. And just like the spectators at the Paris Games, the singer and beauty mogul has been banking on sports fashion.

On July 28, the Barbadian singer showed up at the Manchester City vs. AC Milan soccer match in New York City, dressed in the perfect outfit to cheer on the players from the stands, and maybe even score a few goals. She opted for a black and white sports tee, paired with a plaid miniskirt (sheer underwear included!) and red sneakers. To top it all off, she opted for a frayed hat and gold hoop earrings.

But this isn’t your average sports outfit. Rihanna opted for pieces that were both high-fashion and athletic, including a striped Loewe tee and a Miu Miu miniskirt. For sneakers, she got creative by wearing a pair of her own designs, which she worked with her Fenty x Puma collection. She completed the look with a Bottega Veneta handbag and diamond necklaces. Perfect, in my opinion.

While Rihanna has been rocking sports jerseys for years (she’s one of the few celebrities who can pull off the look with such ease!), in recent months, sports-themed tops have become a staple for fashion girls and celebrities alike, thanks to TikTok’s “blokecore” trend. It may sound complicated, but it boils down to wearing items that channel your inner soccer player, from jerseys and sneakers to athletic shorts and ribbed knee-high socks. Other fans of the aesthetic include Bella Hadid, Hailey Bieber, and Winnie Harlow.

While this trend isn’t limited to sports jerseys, this item is essential to achieving the look. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to approach it, whether it’s a high-fashion version like Rihanna’s or a soccer jersey made for a sports brand’s pitch. Vintage jerseys are also all the rage, which can be an affordable and creative way to get in on the trend.

If you’re looking for a goal, a Rihanna-approved top is what you need.
