Reform UK’s deputy chief Richard Tice insisted that the party knows “exactly what it does” after 48 hours during which its president Zia Yusuf resigned, before returning to a different role.
Thursday, Yusuf radically stopped, saying in an article on social networks that trying to have the party was not “good use of my time”.
However, Two days later, he said he would come back To direct the unit of the party responsible for identifying the discounts of expenditure in the councils, which is inspired by the American department of the effectiveness of the government.
Tice told BBC Sunday with Laura Kuensberg that the Presidency of the party was “a hard and brutal work” and Yusuf was “essentially exhausted” after 11 months in the role.
“It is a massive work, and as we became incredibly quickly – essentially, this work was too much for a person, we therefore reorganize ourselves.
“I am delighted that Zia stays with the party and that he will focus on our Doge.”
Yusuf announced his initial decision to leave in a social media position but has not developed his reasons to leave.
However, he came shortly after criticizing Sarah Pochin – the new deputy for the reform – who used his question to the Prime Minister’s question to wonder if the government prohibits Burka, a veil carried by certain Muslim women who cover their face and their body.
Asked about pochin’s intervention on X, Yusuf – who is Muslim – said: “Nothing to do with me. I had no idea of the question or that it was not a policy.
“Beneficiary with other things. I think it is stupid for a party to ask the PM if he would do something that the party itself would not do.”
Announcing his decision to return to the party on Saturday, Yusuf said that his initial resignation was “born from exhaustion” after “11 months (of) hard work and exhaustion”.
The party leader, Nigel Farage, said that Yusuf had been subject to “fairly vile abuses” adding: “He reacted excessively and he admits that it was a mistake.”
The Liberals-Democrats said that Reform UK was playing “musical president” while the Labor Party characterized events as a “humiliating hokey-cokey”.
When asked if it made the chaotic party appear, Tice said: “No, we know exactly what we are doing.”
He continued: “Zia was essentially exhausted because he worked 24/7 for 10 or 11 months voluntarily.
“There is high pressure, it is an important, difficult and brutal work presiding over a fast -growing political party. But it is excellent news that he is with us, on us.”
The party is expected to appoint a new president and vice-president next week.
