Richard Gere recalls Julia Roberts’ glowing first impression

Richard Geré was once just an actor, standing in front Julia Robertknowing she would be a star.

THE A pretty woman alumnus, who worked with the future Oscar winner on the 1990 romantic comedy and the 1999 film Runaway bride recently shared his first impression of his teammate.

“When I first met her, she was beaming,” he recalled to E! News at the Cannes Film Festival on May 21. “She had not become, Julia Robert. She was just a lovely person.”

He noted of his star power: “It was unmistakable.”

And Richard isn’t the only one who was charmed by their meet cute.

After all, Julia remembers her first impression of the 74-year-old, which came when she and the film’s director, the late Gary Marshallflew to New York to convince him to join the cast.

“I’m like, ‘Mom, I’m flying to New York with Garry Marshall,’ we’re going to see Richard Gere,'” she exclaimed to SiriusXM in 2017. “We went to his apartment and we spoke and he was very pleasant.”
