Rhys Hoskins emotional during standing ovation on return to Philly – NBC Sports Philadelphia

Rhys Hoskins didn’t play a single game in 2023, but his impact was still felt throughout Philadelphia in what ended up being his final season as a Phillie.

So much so that he was given the task of throwing out the first pitch against the Marlins in the Wild Card Series to kick off Red October. It was an overwhelming reaction from the crowd of more than 44,000 fans in attendance.

This is nothing like what we witnessed on a simple Monday evening in June.

The Brewers are in town for a three-game series. This is the first time in his career that Hoskins has entered Citizens Bank Park as a member of the opposition.

The reception he received is enough to move anyone.

Pitch clock: disabled
Crowd: electric
Emotions: high

“I’m a bit of a crier,” Hoskins said before the game. “I’m probably going to cry at some point today. But I think that tells you everything you need to know about, you know, the energy and the emotion that I was able to capture from this place over the course of the last decade.

“Yeah, it’s going to be memorable for sure. I hope they don’t have to stop the match because I’m crying too much.”

If it’s worth anything, Rhys, we’re all crying too.
