Brave right Reynaldo López underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder today. The club had previously declared that they would not know its calendar until the procedure was completed. David O’Brien de The Athletic reports today that manager Brian Snitker describes it as a “cleaning” procedure. The right -hander will be prevented from launching for 12 weeks, which will lead him in July, before being re -examined. Even if he is declared healthy at that time, he would need several weeks to go up, which means that a return in August or September may be the best case.
The news is obviously less than ideal, because López was a key member of last year’s rotation and was to be in this role again this year. Atlanta signed it in 2024 and moved it to rotation, even if it launched relief for a while. The gambit has paid, López displaying an average of 1.99 on average by more than 135 2/3 sleeves.
Going from the enclosure of the Rotation Leduers to still have presented certain challenges. He had a few relays on the injured list last year, one due to inflammation of the forearm and another due to inflammation of the shoulder. However, he was outside the IL at the end of the season and seemed good during training in this year. But after a single departure in the regular season, he landed again on the IL with more inflammation in this shoulder.
Shortly after, the club announced that the arthroscopic procedure would be necessary. As mentioned, they did not expect to have a firm calendar until it was done, although they transferred it to the 60 days last week when they acquired Jason delay. This suggested that they did not expect him before the end of May, but it seems that he is actually far beyond.
It seems that there is still a window for López to come back at the end of the year, but it seems to be a little narrow. Its rehabilitation could perhaps become an important development this summer, because the Front Office will have to decide how much the prosecution of pitch on the deadline. As they decide their plan of attack, López could return to the mound if he does not feel any reverse.
For the moment, the club is found with Sale of Chris And Spencer Schwellenbach like the main members of the rotation. Grant Holmes And AJ Smith-Shawver won the last two places outside the camp. When López struck the Il, Bryce Elder was recalled to replace it.
Spencer Strider seems to approach very close to a return of UCL surgery from last year. He launched 5 1/3 sleeves aimlessly at his last start of rehabilitation. This will probably push one of Smith’s elders or shawver in a triple-a optional assignment. Holmes is out of options but could come up against a long role of relief, with a current long man Zach Thompson Then be optional. Hurston Waldrep,, Davis Daniel And Dylan Dodd are also on 40 men.
The team probably works with a little less room for the error than what they expected. They entered the season as a contenders, but managed a dreary departure 1-8, the worst baseball record. They will have to get out of this hole without their big add to off -season, like PROFAR JRICKSON received a PED suspension of 80 games. López will be on the shelf even longer than that.
