The Revolution only managed to make limited additions to their on-field roster during the recent close of MLS’s first transfer window, but the club was able to add a potentially impactful figure to its front office on Monday.

David Kammarman, previously head scout for Los Angeles FC, has been officially announced by the Revolution as the team’s new head of player recruiting. The hiring was originally reported by Paul Tenorio of Athleticism.

The addition of Kammarman gives New England’s front office more experience and a history of success in building MLS rosters. He joins a staff group that includes athletic director Curt Onalfo, technical director Remi Roy and assistant athletic director Chris Tierney.

Like new Revolution head coach Caleb Porter, Kammarman comes to New England with a championship track record.

With LAFC, Kammarman helped the Western Conference powerhouse win multiple Supporters’ Shields as well as the 2022 MLS Cup. Prior to that, he worked as a scout for Atlanta United from 2017 to 2019 (during which Atlanta won the title in 2018). From 2009 to 2016, he served as director of soccer operations for the Los Angeles Galaxy, contributing to three more MLS Cup victories. His league experience also includes previous stints with DC United, Chicago Fire FC and the New York MetroStars.

The situation Kammarman finds himself in with the Revolution will require some roster decisions both over the summer and after the 2024 season. Porter acknowledged his team “needs pieces” as the Revolution currently reside in last position in the Eastern Conference after 10 games.

When the secondary transfer window opens on July 18, Porter has stated his intention to make several additions. To do that, the Revolution will need to open up a few roster spots, presenting picks that will go to Kammarman along with Porter and the rest of the New England staff.
