Marseille boss Roberto de Zerbi revealed the reason why Mason Greenwood was abandoned on the bench in recent matches.
The 23 -year -old striker is still looking for Ligue 1 Golden Boot after scoring 15 goals in 26 games for the French Giants.
However, after being a guaranteed starter for much of the season, Greenwood had to settle for the bench appearances for the clashes against the objective and Paris Saint-Germain.
Reports in France had suggested that the attacker had been abandoned when he does not meet his expectations of work rate and could head towards the exit at the end of the season.
De Zerbi was quick to solve the problem of his press conference on Friday, saying that Greenwood is not used to the intense workload he had this season.
“ We must clarify the Mason Greenwood affair a little, because you, journalists, are always able to change things a little, to create scoops, because you have to do what all journalists do a little, which is to do a little chaos ”, said the former boss of Brighton.

“Greenwood is a very good person I love, because I like his father.
“ He had a little trouble at any time because he had a girl who was born, and I don’t think he is used to playing such an intense season and being a main player. I think he paid it physically.
“This is to say that he did not push himself and was not 100% as I wanted in training, in terms of what I expect from a player like him.
“His physical condition has decreased a little, but my project in Marseille is not only to qualify for the Champions League, it is also to create something like what Luis Enrique created (at PSG). He created a team, a group of strong players, but with a soul.
After emerging as one of the brightest young talents in Man United, he left the club officially last summer after his arrest in January 2022 before being accused of attempted rape, aggression and control and coercive behavior.
The charges against Greenwood were abandoned by the Crown prosecution service following “withdrawal of key witnesses and new documents that have been revealed”.
Greenwood rekindled his career on loan during the Spanish outfit Getafe last season, where he won 10 goals and six assists.
He has since officially applied his international allegiance to England, for whom he made an exit, at Jamaica de Steve McClaren.
