Restaurant review: Maru – POLITICO

What is not? One notable little detail: long tables can sometimes make it difficult to hear your dining companion, especially on a crowded evening.

Atmosphere: The trendy wooden interior immediately creates a warm atmosphere. There is a mix of mainly small tables and a few larger tables for larger groups, so there is something for everyone.

Who gets the check? It’s not the cheapest place, so you better be prepared. Individual tabs rarely drop below €50, with dishes ranging from €20 to almost €40. Read: It’s a date night dinner for special occasions.

Spotted: Maru attracts a diverse crowd, from the smartly dressed man next to us with his pocket square to the more casual, younger crowds. It is an essential place to meet friends, appointments, family reunions or even (why not!) work meetings.

Insider tip: Reserve in advance! The restaurant is usually full on weekends, so it’s a good idea to make reservations at least three days in advance.

Fun fact: Surprisingly, Maru also offers a wide selection of natural wines, thanks to the owner’s partner who is a wine enthusiast. Don’t hesitate to ask if you can buy a bottle to take home.

How to get there: Head towards the Bailli or the Trinité, accessible via the 8, 54, 81 or 93. From there, it is around 10 minutes on foot towards the Chaussée de Waterloo. Look for the cool window with neon lights and curtains: it’s Maru!
