Residents of a Southern California condominium complex live in fear of their neighbor

After months of scary incidents and vandalism, some residents of a Long Beach apartment complex say they’re tired of living in fear of a neighbor.

Several people living in the Gladys Avenue condo complex spoke to KTLA 5’s Sara Welch, saying a man threatened them and broke several windows of homes in the building. The neighbors are afraid of what he will do next. Many condos are owned by the occupants, which makes getting around more difficult.

“Once or twice a month he comes out of his apartment, breaks someone’s window and goes back inside,” said Desi Ambrozak, who lives in the complex. “Its windows have been broken for a very long time now.”

A woman who lives in one of the units says she carries a Taser with her out of fear for her safety. Ambrozak says the woman is afraid of the man’s unpredictable behavior.

“They don’t feel safe getting their mail,” he said. “They don’t feel safe taking out their trash. They feel like they are constantly on guard.

Several complaints were filed regarding this man’s behavior. Neighbors say they caught him urinating in common areas, breaking apartment and vehicle windows, as well as verbally accosting residents.

The latest incident occurred last week when neighbors said the suspect broke several windows. The man left with Long Beach police officers but returned a short time later.

Four neighbors have left the complex in the past three months because of this man’s behavior. David Lugo was packing his bags Saturday to move.

“This neighbor is terrorizing us,” said David Lugo, who was leaving his home on Saturday. “Screaming, drugs, he screams like a child in there, obscenities and swear words really. He threatened us several times.

Residents of the Gladys Avenue complex say the man has owned his condo for about 20 years, but only recently returned. Several people living in the building filed restraining orders against the man.

The complex’s owners’ association takes legal action to find out its rights against the unruly occupant.

Long Beach police have responded to the complex several times, but neighbors fear the man’s behavior will continue to escalate.

There have been several cases of violence and crime in the city of Long Beach in recent months, prompting several residents to denounce the lack of accountability of the perpetrators.

Residents in the Laguna Beach neighborhood say they face a similar problem. A man has been terrorizing the area for over a year.
