Following the huge success of the Resident Evil remakes, it’s no surprise that Capcom continues to work on new projects remaking classic entries. Among the titles most requested for a current-gen treatment are the acclaimed 2000 Claire Redfield-focused spin-off, Code Veronica, and the GameCube prequel, Resident Evil 0.

Luckily for fans, the existence of both projects has been repeatedly corroborated by reliable sources, suggesting we’ll see them in the near future. We can now confirm that the Resident Evil 0 remake is indeed a reality, and we’ve been able to gather some details about the project, including plot additions, casting, and information regarding its development.

Plot and Casting Details for Resident Evil 0: Remake

Similar to what has been reported by reputable insiders, we’ve been told that Resident Evil 0: Remake has been a project in development for a few years now. The title was worked on under the codename “Chamber”, which functions as a clever play on words referencing protagonist Rebecca Chambers’ last name, and this voice capture and performance work with new actors for the main roles would have begun at some point in 2024.

One of the actors joining this new cast is Jon McLaren, known for playing Star-Lord in the 2021 in-game adaptation of Guardians of the Galaxy and for his roles in Far Cry 5. We know this from a mention on the actor’s CV, where “Project Chamber” is listed as one of his projects and is noted as a starring role.

Additionally, this project is overseen by Beyond Capture Studios, a motion capture company that has previously collaborated with Capcom on games such as Resident Evil 4 Remake and Street Fighter 6.

Given that the actor is one of the main players in the project, it is likely that Jon McLaren is the actor assigned to play Billy Coen, the co-protagonist of the original game, alongside Rebecca Chambers.

With these casting details, we can probably rule out any return of voice actors from the original game, even though recasting is a common practice with Resident Evil remakes.

Now, in terms of plot, the remake is expected to expand on the source material, although the main story will remain the same, another common feature of RE remakes. Before we continue, we must warn you to minor plot spoilers. The following example details the new additions for the remake, that’s why we’re refraining from sharing other major story beats that would reveal too much..

One of these new scenarios would involve the initial segment of the game taking place on the train, specifically regarding the train driver. In the original game, this character is never seen and is only referenced via his office on the train, but in the remake he will take on a slightly larger role.

We can detail that one of the scenes involving this character asks Rebecca for help to stop the train from accelerating, only to end up betraying her by locking him up with a bunch of zombies so that he can escape. Following this, we don’t see him again until he reaches a later area of the game, where Rebecca would find him interacting with another mysterious, unnamed character who seems to have knowledge of the general situation and clearly plays an important role in the plot.

Those familiar with the story may already have an idea of who this mysterious individual could be, but they will also know that none of these plot elements were present in the original game. We should therefore expect a more cinematic structure for the scenario.

Interestingly, despite all these details, everything indicates that we still have some time before we see this remake, as recent statements from insider DuskGolem suggest that we would first see the launch of the Code Veronica remake, which is currently rumored to be targeting the first quarter of 2027, while the Resident Evil 0 remake is targeting a 2028 release.

Luckily, we still have the ninth main installment in the series, Resident Evil Requiem, which is about to be released and aims to be the most ambitious yet, rumored to bring back an older Leon Kennedy.

On a related note, you might be interested to know that Capcom has reportedly avoided re-releases of classic entries so that players can experience the remakes, which the company considers a “superior experience.”
