Republicans who voted for Ukraine continue to thrive in primaries

Three weeks before their Republican primary, Senators Deb Fischer and Peter Ricketts made a politically risky decision.

Nebraska Republicans backed away from their previous opposition to a massive national security plan and voted to approve the funding, even though it included $61 billion to bolster Ukraine’s defense.

For months, aid to Ukraine remained on hold, with many Republicans fearing it was a red line for conservative voters who had heard only criticism from the ex- President Donald Trump and far-right figures like Tucker Carlson.
