Reports: Wizards trade Deni Avdija to Blazers for No. 14 pick Malcolm Brogdon

Deni Avdija averaged 14.7 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.8 assists in 75 games last season.

The Washington Wizards have reportedly agreed to trade forward Deni Avdija to the Portland Trail Blazers in exchange for guard Malcolm Brogdon, the 14th pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, a 2029 first-round pick and two future second-round picks, according to multiple reports.

Wizards get:

  • Malcolm Brogdon
  • Pick No. 14 in the 2024 NBA Draft
  • 2029 first-round pick (Portland’s second-most favorable)
  • 2028 second round pick
  • 2030 second round pick

The Trail Blazers get:

Avdija, a 6-foot-9 forward drafted ninth overall in 2020, is coming off a career season in which he averaged 14.7 points and 7.2 rebounds while shooting 37.4 percent. at 3 points. His improvement was a bright spot for the otherwise struggling Wizards, and it earned him a sixth-place finish in Kia’s Most Improved Player voting.

Avdija signed a four-year, $55 million contract extension with the Wizards last October and is under contract through the 2027-28 season.

Portland is shedding some of its surplus draft picks while adding a 23-year-old rotation player to its post-Damian Lillard era. The Blazers finished the 2023-24 season with a 21-61 record and hold the seventh overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft.

Meanwhile, Washington is still resetting its own roster before using the No. 2 pick in Wednesday’s draft. Brogdon, a veteran guard whose contract is expiring, could stay to help guide a young Wizards team or be involved in another trade.

NBA.com will have more on this announced agreement soon.
