The Dallas Cowboys ticked off fans on Thursday after reports indicated offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was in the lead for the Cowboys head coaching job.
From parting ways with Mike McCarthy to vetting Deion Sanders as a candidate, landing Schottenheimer felt like a huge gut punch for Dallas fans to expect fireworks.
With the revered Cowboys brand stuck in a unglamorous The position, their decision on the next head coach seemed vital.
Schotty has been with the Cowboys since 2022, starting as a coaching analyst before moving to Cowboys OC in 2023. He took over the position following the departure of Kellen Moore, who was also a candidate for Dallas’ HC role.
Dallas needed a home pick. And still committed to Wishy Washy quarterback Dak Prescott, who signed a $240 million extension, the Cowboys are failing to inspire fans about the direction of the franchise.

Team owner Jerry Jones is leading the charge and apparently wants another internal candidate who can cede control to Jones. Without any real head coaching experience, Schottenheimer seemed like the safe choice for Jerry Jones. Jerry Jones’ decision-making on the Cowboys’ decision-making remains as strong as ever.
NFL analyst Daryl Johnston previously appeared on “Outkick: Hot Mic” and discussed whether a franchise-defining coach of Deion Sanders’ value could handle Jones and his heavy-handed control.
Johnston said, “No one wants to win a championship more than Jerry, and sometimes that can be beneficial, but sometimes it can be detrimental to the team, especially moving forward and putting yourself in a bad position.”
Still, Cowboys fans blew a fuse when the news broke regarding Schottenheimer.
Maybe former coach Marty Schottenheimer’s son has some tricks; The rest of us are simply not aware of this vision.
