When Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was asked about the possibility of another team trying to trade for him, he responded by telling anyone with such thoughts: “save your time.”
The Steelers would have sent the same message. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bears called the Steelers to see if there was any chance a deal could be reached for Tomlin to become their new head coach and the Steelers quickly pushed back on their overture.
Another team reportedly contacted the Steelers and was told Tomlin had a no-trade clause, although he could put an end to any trade notions by refuse to negotiate an agreement with the other team even though they had agreed to compensation with Pittsburgh.
The Bears have interviewed a number of head coaching candidates in recent weeks and may begin having in-person conversations with coaches from that group who currently work for other teams after the divisional round. Their next coach will come from this pool and not one that includes Tomlin.
