According to Mike Silver from The Athletic, the 49ers of San Francisco intend to hire their former defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh, in the same position this offseason. Saleh left the team after the 2020 season to become the head coach of the New York Jets, a job he held until mid-season in 2024. After leaving New York, Saleh joined the Green Bay packers as an offensive consultant, where he worked with head coach Matt Lafleur – the best man in the wedding of Saleh – for the opposite defenses to the opposite engineer.
Saleh was a candidate to become the Jacksonville Jaguars head coach, a program where he spent time from 2014 to 2016, but this work seems to go to Liam Coen, the attacking coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. If Saleh was not going to get another crack as a head coach, it was logical that he returned to San Francisco under head coach Mike Shanahan.
Together, the duo Shanahan and Saleh went 13-3 during the 2019 season, taking their team to the Super Bowl, where they lost against the Chiefs of Kansas City. This season presented a 37-8 victory against the packers during the regular season and the team doubling on Green Bay with a victory in the NFC championship.
The 49ers come from a lower year, ending 6-11, in part because the receiver Brandon Aiyuk, the ball carrier Christian McCaffrey, the ball carrier Jordan Magon, the left platform Trent Williams and the second Dre Greenlaw all finished finished The season in the injured reserve. Assuming that their talent for offensive skills is healthier in 2025 and that Saleh defense rights on the ship, they should be in a better place to move forward.
