The Buccaneers might need another new offensive coordinator.
According to Rick Stroud of Tampa Bay Timesthe organization prepares for current OC Liam Coen being offered the Jaguars head coaching job in the coming days – perhaps as early as Wednesday.
Coen is expected to speak with the Jaguars for the second time this week.
Coen, 39, just finished his first year with the Buccaneers, helping the club finish No. 3 in total yards and No. 4 in points en route to victory in the NFC South. Coen was previously with the Rams from 2018-2020 before heading to Kentucky to become the program’s offensive coordinator in 2021. He returned to the Rams as CO in 2022 before returning to Kentucky in 2023 to fill the same role.
If the Jaguars hire Coen, it will be the second time in two years that a Bucs offensive coordinator has been in the building for a single season before leaving to become head coach. Dave Canales was hired as head coach of the Panthers last offseason after spending a year in Tampa Bay.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles has had Byron Leftwich, Canales and Coen as offensive coordinators during his three seasons at the helm.
Stroud also raises the possibility that the Bucs could offer Bowles a front office position and hire Coen to replace him, noting that the club actually did that with Bruce Arians resigning as head coach in March 2022 in favor of Bowles.
In 2016, the Buccaneers also fired Love Smith after two seasons and promoted offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to head coach, keeping him with the franchise.
