Reminder of major dog food issued due to the contamination of Salmonella

The Natural Raw Pet Food brand recalls some of its natural mixture of 2 pounds diary after samples of the product proved to be contaminated.

The samples, which were taken on January 8 by the Ministry of Agriculture of North Carolina and tested by the Laboratory for the Protection of Food and Drugs of the Ministry of Agriculture of North Carolina, came of products distributed in several states in January.

According to the Food and Drug Administration, which was informed of the contamination of January 27, the affected products were stamped with the lot # N25 / 12/11 and UPC # 854298001054.

The products were sold in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, Tennessee and Rhode Island. The FDA requests that people who bought the affected product refer it to the place of purchase or immediately have it “in a way that children, pets and fauna cannot access”.

In addition, the government agency urges customers not to feed the product reminded of animals, “wash and disinfect bowls of pet food, cups and storage containers” and to wash and carefully disinfect hands after handling the food recalled.

Symptoms of salmonella in pets may include diarrhea, fever, vomiting and lack of energy. Other symptoms include a decrease in appetite and abdominal pain. Pets may be carrying and passing the infection to other pets or people even if they do not have symptoms.

In people, Salmonella symptoms may include fever, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Although rare, symptoms can also include “arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms”, according to the FDA.
